Extended School Trip - End of Day 1

We were really lucky with the traffic down to the ferry and were able to stop on the way.  Unfortunately the ferry was 30 minutes late but that didn't dampen our spirits.  Lunch was eaten on the ferry and we were soon at our first destination, fossil hunting!  Thankfully it didn't rain on us and the children had a very successful hunt.  They even managed to spend some money in the shop.

We arrived at the hotel around 5 o'clock, settled in and had a fire drill.  After our evening meal we took the coach to the go-karts and discovered a number of budding drivers.  A brisk march back and the children were tucked up in bed by 10 o'clock!

All safe and sound and looking forward to tomorrow.

Extended School Trip - End of Day 2

After a good night's sleep, and a fine breakfast we set off in the rain to Blackgang Chine!  The children had a wonderful morning on roller coasters, water rides, haunted houses and lots of running in and out of Cowboy land!!!  Sadly the rain did not stop, but this didn't dampen our spirits!  After lunch we moved onto the Falconry Centre, where we had a superb indoor flying demonstration including a commentary on the birds' habitats, diet and care.

The children and staff enjoyed a lovely supper of minestrone soup followed by roast chicken, roast potatoes and vegetables and dessert.

The evening itinerary was supposed to be archery, but sadly this was cancelled due to the poor weather conditions, and so we had an imprompu session of ten pin bowling, which in view of the fact that everyone had been soaked during the day, proved popular.

We returned to the hotel by approximately 9.00 p.m. for the children write up their diaries before getting off to bed.

We hope the weather improves tomorrow....!!

Extended School Trip - End of Day 3

It was wonderful to wake up to the sunshine this morning, after such a wet day yesterday!!  After yet another hearty breakfast, we left the hotel in high spirits and headed for Coleman's
Farm, where we all learned a great deal about the animals we saw - including Mrs. Richards!

The children had an opportunity to stroke rabbits and guinea pigs, saw minature shetland ponies. Some of them volunteered to groom the goats (very brave....!!).  Mr. Brewster and Mrs. Maycock were volunteered by the children to feed a very LARGE cow from Uganda called Hazel who had very slimy lips!!  All those that wanted to had an opportunity to feed some lambs with a bottle.

After lunch, we travelled onto Amazon World, and saw some more exotic rare animals and birds.  Followed by a outdoor flying display.  After an opportunity to play on the extensive adventure playground, we returned to the hotel for fish fingers and chips, and then made our way swiftly to the Theatre for the Monster Show.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the loud music and joined in enthusiastically.  Still in high spirits, we finished off the evening with a brisk walk to the beach, had a run around and returned to go to bed!!

Fingers crossed that the sunshine stays with us for the final two days!!

Extended School Trip - End of Day 4

We were blessed with another superb sunny day, which was perfect for a trip to Alum Bay and our boat trip.  The children were not too impressed with the long walk down to the beach, and even less impressed with the long walk back, but we told them it was good for them!!!  After the fun of filling shapes with the coloured sand, we had lunch and boarded the bus to head for Wightwaters Sports for body boarding.

Some of the children were very nervous of this new experience but within minutes of getting into the water they were boarding like professionals.

After a dinner of roast turkey, roast potatoes and green beans, much fun was had at the talent show.

Lots of tired but happy children retired to bed ready for the trip home tomorrow.

Extended School Trip - End of Day 5

We were fortunate once again that the weather was kind and having said farewell and thank you to our hosts at the Alendel Hotel, set off for the brass rubbing centre.  We split into two groups - one having a tour and talk about the ancient church, and the others have an opportunity to do some hand on brass rubbing and then vice versa.

We were in good time to catch our 12.15 ferry and managed to arrive at school pretty much on time.

All group leaders thoroughly enjoyed their time with the children and congratulate them all on their good behaviour.

We hope the children had as much fun as we did!!!  See you all on Monday!
