Gardening Club
Gardening Club
The club runs every Thursday between 3.15 and 4.15. It runs up until the Autumn half term and then breaks until the Spring term. The club has about 14 members and is run by parent volunteers. If the weather is bad we use the school hall and do potting, cooking and tasting or garden themed arts and crafts.
Over the past few months, the children have worked very hard on site, and totally revamped the area making it a very pleasant and attractive garden with seating area, two water tubs, herb garden, bird table and wild flower bed, which has the tallest sunflowers you have ever seen (4.3 metres) - which they have grown from seed!
We have six raised beds in which the children have grown potatoes, carrots, raddish, lettuce, peas, runner beans, broad beans and more. The produce is taken home by them, or sold at the local Market Fayre to raise funds.
We recently covered the whole garden area with weed matting and covered it with bark, which was a huge task, but one the children enjoyed and saw the benefit. We also had an 'Open Garden' as part of the village 'May Festival' and received lovely comments from the public and raised money for the school swimming pool fund, and also ourselves which we are going to spend on planting fruit trees.
We also are very lucky to have a shed, greenhouse and automatic water system. There is no charge for the club and we run by fund raising and kind donations.
The garden has now become very established as the photos now show.
The club is run by Mrs Sarah Radley (Green fingered helper). Back to top
